Diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis in 1999 and due to renal failure brought on by the disease, Amanda’s mother Lorraine, donated her kidney to Amanda in 2011. Over the years Amanda underwent a range of treatments from high-dose steroids to chemotherapy for the Lupus and spent three years on haemodialysis. However, five and a half years after her first transplant, Amanda fell ill with double pneumonia and had to go back on dialysis for two and a half years and eventually underwent a second kidney transplant from an anonymous donor in 2018.
After her transplant Amanda decided to honour her donor and raise awareness for organ and tissue donation and competed in City2Surf in 2019 in an amazing 3hrs 18 minutes and 20 seconds.
Amanda is one of the bravest people we know.
