Herd of Hope Limited is an Australian Charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission (ACNC).
We are the only charity that provides support for organ transplant recipients and donor families in rural and regional areas. We advocate for the improvement in rural health facilities to ensure access to comprehensive services and treatment for transplant recipients.
We acknowledge that a transplant is not a cure but part of a long term treatment plan.
For the best transplant outcomes, Herd of Hope recognises that rural patients need support in both clinical and mental health capacity. We invest resources into keeping regionally based transplant recipients and their families in their rural communities.
In 2019, 1683 people received a transplant in Australia.
1 in 3 of these are based in rural areas.
Rural patients spend a month away from home, as their surgery is in a major hospital.
Rural patients are required to attend post-transplant care at major hospitals in capital cities.
